The Period Project was founded in 2021 after recognizing a critical gap in education around menstruation.
New Zealand research shows that many young women have limited knowledge about menstruation, menstrual cycles and hormones, which is impacting their health and well being.

By providing accurate, accessible education about periods, we believe students can have a more informed and empowered experience. Menstruation shouldn’t cause students to miss classes or opt out of sports.

That’s why we go beyond the basics of the curriculum, offering period education with a strong focus on well being - because periods affect both the physical and mental health of our students.

MEET BEX

I’m a mum to two energetic boys and a French bulldog (my daughter!). I’ve been a Registered Nurse for over 20 years, specializing in Gynaecology, Reproductive Health, and Fertility.

Throughout my career, I frequently heard, “Why didn’t we learn this in school?” Clients were disappointed to only learn about their reproductive systems during their baby-making years, often suffering from abnormal symptoms they thought were normal.

I wrote The Period Project to share essential information for females that we aren’t taught, which quickly evolved into school presentations.

The lack of information and stigma around periods has impacted lives for years. I'm dedicated to changing that by offering honest, detailed information about periods, menstrual cycles, and hormones for all ages and stages.
